I have a long list of events which are seeking water safety staff in 2013. These vary from mass participation events like the Great London Swim, to smaller local triathlons. The rewards vary from £40 to £100 per event but it is a nice day out on the water and we get the opportunity to help other sports by using our skills to keep them safe.

I will try to post a full list as the events come through to me, but if interested please let me know and I will try to keep you updated, together with a list of those that I will be attending.

The basic minimum standard is new 2*/old 3*, with Foundation Safety and Rescue award, but the qualification of choice that organisers look for is the BCU Swim Event Safety Award (SESA), the club is considering offering this course for members.

There are other roles like boat helms and lifeguards at these events, but these need different NGB qualifications.

I am prepared to take others to those events I plan to attend.

OK Meridian Paddlers
For those of you who want to put something back into other sports , and earn a few pounds for deploying your rescue skills , there are a lot of events this spring and summer to which you can apply.
Aas above the minimum qualification is new 2*/old 3* but the SESA is definitely going to get you priority over other paddlers.

I will try to put up a parallel calendar for events over the summer but just to let you know those events where I will may be participating:

31st August : Great London Swim : Apply to Nova International : Event run by Swim Safety. Victoria Docks , London. Payment around £100 for a (very) full day.

22nd June : Great East Swim : Apply to Nova International : Event run by Swim Safety. Suffolk , payment of approx £80 for a very full day and it is a long way to travel.

27/28 July : Virgin London Triathlon: Apply to Swim Safety, event run by them, payment of approx £90 for 2 very full days.

There are also 24 events run by Event Water Safety , mainly in West London and Eton Dorney, but payment here is lower at £40 to £50 for a full day, and the travel is longer
