Medway Clean Up Day: April 14th & 15th

Post by andy g »

Folks
As part of the "go Canoeing Week" the local canoe clubs are having a "Clean Up the River Medway Weekend"
The idea is that each local club takes on a particular area or pound , and then transports the collected rubbish to a designated collection point. The Environment Agency will arrange disposal from these points.
Taking part are Tonbridge , Maidstone, WAM, Scout Groups , and Meridian, plus others.
There is a Facebook page for those of you who have an account.
Would all those who feel that they would like to help with this cause please contact me. We will need a mixture of opens and kayaks and plenty of enthusiasm.
The idea is that all groups start at 10.00 am with a massed start.

All very laudable, but are the angling clubs who run the beats helping?

Tim,
Not aware of any input from the anglers (but are we surprised by that?) I think this will demonstrate to anyone who cares to listen that this is canoeists looking after the environment.

I am prepared to lead a group down to the Medway on Saturday or Sunday to help clean up one of the pounds.

It would be nice to concentrate our efforts as a club so we all work in the same area. I think there will be more publicity on the Saturday, but I am flexible if others would prefer the latter.

Can those who wish to be included please let me know here.

We need a mixture of kayaks and opens, so single blade paddlers are particularly welcome.

Does anyone have a view of which pound we would like to tackle?

Well so far I have been totally underwelmed by the response to my request.
This really is a worthwhile cause that will help us all enjoy the River Medway more.

Is the choice of Saturday v Sunday wrong?

Are there other events clashing?

Are you just not interested?

Please let me know via this posting, or via phone (0) 7703 823 911

Youth Games Trial on the Saturday at Danson, so you may get a few adults who want to avoid the noise and kids.

Right guys
We are going to meet at Yalding at around 10.00 to 10.30 , and paddle down to Teston Lock.
From there we will clean up the pound down to East Farleigh.
Paul Newman has offered to shuttle us back to Yalding with a boat trailer.

Can I now have some volunteers please! We need at least 1 open boat and 4 kayaks.

OK Folks
I have so far had zero response to my request.
Would it help any if we switched this to the Sunday?

Will you post here if you are able to make the Sunday , or see me at the pool on Wednesday.

Andy,
I can make Sunday.
Surely there are others? I think Barry is going.
